Cold. It’s. Just. Plain. Cold. Around -20 F, or -29 C. I am trying hard to appreciate the day today, and the beauty is pretty lost to me. The fire, and its heat, speaks to me in a very fundamental way on mornings like this. There is nothing really very pretty at all in this photo, I know. But the assignment was to find beauty, every day–and I congratulate myself on remembering it on a day I’d prefer to avoid.

I brought these water plants in from our water feature this past fall. They were spectacular, just too big and lush to let die when the cold set in. In spite of the fairly smelly water (and I really am changing it completely very often), they are fun to see inside. A bit of green, juxtaposed against the snow right outside the windows.
